'How Do We See Ourselves? Photography Panel Discussion'
This panel invites four distinctive artists from the Monash Fine Art Faculty to discuss the idea of belonging in photography and related artistic practices. Belonging, as being a part of a particular group, regardless of race, culture, or nationality, a typical personal quality that is mirrored and shared across the people in the group. The panel explores the complex relationships between photography and the nuanced concepts of belonging. Four artists discuss how photography commonly operates both as a reflective and formative agent in shaping our perceptions of the essential aspects of belonging. By unravelling the great connections between the concept of belonging and photographic practice, the panel follows the forerunners’ paths to unpack the magic of photography through the exchange of ideas from language. How do we see ourselves within this contemporary era through the lens of photography is an important topic that artists have been exploring. Gathering four emerging artists into this panel wishes to open a discussion about the way of the younger artists think about their position in the art world.
