Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

I am a multidisciplinary artist who enjoys exploring the relationship we have with material properties, their limitations and possibilities. I enjoy transforming elements into less literal versions of themselves, elevating and re-evaluating their purpose.

My practice questions how we traditionally connect with the world and can innovate to expand any perceived barriers of the function of materials. It also celebrates a deep respect for my environment, including my family and our collective memories, leaning heavily into personal archaeology, biographical excavation and non-literal mapping through connection to place, materials, and nostalgia.

Collective memories and the power they hold inspires this installation. It is part of the human experience for shared experiences and memories to bind unique individuals as a cohesive group. The combustible materials were collected from locations special to us as a family, such as our childhood homes and parks. This installation celebrates the collective memories and connection to place of my wonderful, supportive family. Using these combustibles, I infused our shared memories and experiences into the ceramics.
