MEDIAVERSITY

Adaptation of Lorne theatre, and expanding to accommodate for modern day cinema - social media. This project is an experiment of how architectural design can be used to get people off their phones and make real world connections. Using social media performance and education as the attraction for social media users, then connecting them to nature and creating a space for face to face socialisation. The pattern that is enclosing the Lorne Theatre is based off the Basalt rock patterns found across the coast surrounding Lorne, and the green moss pattern is based off of sea moss, as the design is set in a future in which the building has been encased in a time capsule and has eroded.

Rooftop Cinema

This rooftop cinema serves as a space for users of the main building as a lounge, dining area, and a platform to present social media content that they have created. Which can then be discussed and feedback provided. Which will support them in improving their work but also connect the users to each other as it creates a space where people will interact and make connections in real life. Also can be used for movie nights!

Reality Show Living Room

This space is apart of the Reality Show Living building, where popular social media creators can stay to both increase their following and have a phone and social media detox. The guests are not allowed to bring in phones and the only contact they have outside the other guests is with the public who can see inside the building 24/7. The guests are on display which is a real life representation of the lack of privacy social media creators have, and is a lesson to the audience of the impact of using social media and publishing your life to the public. Whilst also increasing tourism for Lorne and attract people to the project.

Guest Cubby House Accommodation

This is inside one of four Cubby Houses where the Reality Show guests sleep. The form of the Cubby Houses is based off display cases as the users will be in the public eye on display. This is to reflect and warn the audience of the invasiveness of social media.

Learning and Teaching spaces

This area is the Second Floor of the Performance and Education Centre where users have access to mentoring, filming equipment and spaces, and editing technologies. This will allow them to enhance their social media skills. The wall finish is a 3d printed sea moss texture to connect the users to nature.

Performance and Education Centre Section

The section of the Education and Performance Building shows the Lobby and Cinema (Ground Floor), Equipment and seating Storage room (First Floor), The Learning and Rehearsal spaces (Second Floor), and the Rooftop Lounge/Cinema(Third Floor). The operable stage seen in the cinema can be lowered and seating can be set up from the storage level to create opening seating and flexible stage layouts, accommodating for a range of performing arts. The stage can be raised to allow access to the cinema seating to continue the long-standing tradition of Lorne Cinema, and with the raised stage rehearsal can be completed while the theatre is still in use.
