In antiquity holy relics and fragments of ruined buildings and monuments were incorporated into the fabric of later structures in order to transfer a hidden potency into the new edifice. In this studio we’ll examine this complex and fascinating practice through the design of a building that is both museum and exhibit. Inspired by the practices of contemporary artists, we examine the politics and poetics of contemporary material culture and explore techniques for the embodiment of memory and mythology in the physical fabric of buildings.
