Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2024

Ethan Zohar is a Final Year Bachelor of Architectural Design Student, Dedicated to Innovative, Sustainable and Accessible Design. His Work Seen in This Exhibit, Belongs to Studio 16: “Where Do We Go From Here?” Which Provided Students With the Enriching Experience of Producing an Adaptive Re-Use, Redesign of Harry Seilder’s ‘Shell House’, in Melbourne. Throughout This Sixteen Week Studio, in an Attempt to Reinvigorate This Aged Part of Melbourne’s CBD, Ethan Utilised the Notion of ‘Play’ to Link the Four Programs Within His Building, ‘Play-Stacean House’; Affordable Housing, Office Spaces, a Go-Kart Track and a Water Park.

The Axonometric Section Provides Viewers with a 3D, Window-like Look Into the interior of the Play-Stacean House, Highlighting it's Various Programatic Typologies, Ranging from Affordable Housing, Office Spaces, a Go-Kart Track and a Water Park. This Drawing is Able to Outline Each Program Via the Inclusion of Elements such as all of its Interior and Exterior Walls, Furniture and People. The Drawing is Also Utilised to Unlock the Realisation of its' Scale, for Viewers to Comprehend.

Play-Stacean House Street View

This Drawing Depicts the Perspective of an Individual at Street Level, Amongst, Men, Women, Children, Gazing Upwards, Experiencing the Playful, Wild and Wonderful Facade of the Play-Stacean House, set against the Melbourne CBD. The Drawing Also Captures the Street Level, Urban Gesture of Splash Pad Nozzles, for Children to Run Through and Play in, As Well as the Inclusion of a Playful Water Wall, Built Into the Facade of the Lobby, Creating a Visually Engaging and Fun Addition to the Building, Further Blurring the Lines of the Previously Existing 9-5, 5 Days per Week Identity of What Used to be an Office Building.

This Diagram Accentuates to Viewers the Changes Made During The Redesign of the Original Structure, Shell House, by Harry Seidler. The Right Side Depicts the Demolitions and Removed Elements of the Original Structure, Whilst the Left Side Depicts the Various Programatic Changes to the Structure.
