Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2024

I am a final year Bachelor of Architecture student, with a passion for collaborative design rooted in my upbringing in the construction industry. This project explores the curvilinear grid of the Shell House, with a "push-pull” intervention, creating a multi-purpose building aimed at increasing youth employment rates. By intertwining residential, educational, sports, and office spaces, I aim to foster collaboration and growth among young people.

My approach centers on inclusivity and addressing social challenges. Influenced by my travels and community, I want to bring a global perspective to each project, striving to create a built environment that is both sustainable and community-focused.

Perspective Section

Section and context within the CBD, shows the relationships between all typologies - sport, residential, office and school. Sports facilities interspersed between other typologies that are stacked, naturally creating a push and pull of the existing grid of the Shell House.

Exterior Perspective Views

Exterior views of the top and bottom of my design, featuring the roof top amphitheatre and balconies, as well as the raised/sunken terraced planter boxes for my ground floor intervention.

Isometric with Context

Isometric of corner block in CBD where the original building (the Shell House) is located, corner of Spring Street and Flinders Street featuring proposed interventions.

Floor Plans

The four main typologies and their typical floor plans, windows and rooms start to shift in and out on each level adapting the grid of the original floor plate as the interventions arise.

Details

Detail sections to start to understand how the double glazed, terraced windows work within the original building, as well as the floor system in the sports facilities that help support the cantilever.

Physical Model

Physical model of proposed interventions in the original Shell House and surrounding context. Main design is 3D printed with laser cut plywood for the context. Mesh fabric, painted toothpicks and metal has also been used where appropriate.
