I’m Abby, a professional designer with over two years of experience working in the graphic design industry. I am skilled in motion design, illustration, publication design, identity design, and copywriting. I am also a communication design student at Monash University and a skilled oil painter.
I love combining my passion for fine art with my graphic design skills to produce digital works with the texture of physical artwork. Strong texture is a constant theme across my designs. I believe including textures in digital media is a powerful way to stand out in today’s electronic media-saturated world.
When not designing or painting I will likely be outside camping, surfing or skiing.
Outstanding Project: Motion Design
Send, Monash Board Riders Skateboarding still
For my final motion design project I created three short clips for the Monash University surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding club, Monash Board Riders (MBR). Each of the three clips represents one of the club’s three sports. All three animations are based off promotional materials I have made for MBR whilst volunteering as their marketing representative this year. This still is a frame from the first short, 'Send, Monash Board Riders Skateboarding.'
Snake or be snaked, Monash board Riders Snowboarding short
Snake or be snaked' is a 22 second long animated short that follows a boogie boarder as they cut off or 'snake' three surfers. The clip is designed to promote Monash board Riders surfing. This clip is part of a three video series I created for Monash Board Riders. The other shorts in the series can be viewed on my website: abbyvogelsangdesign.cargo.site
Design Research Kit map and overlay
This map and overlay are designed to collect information on the walks participants have done or would like to do in the greater Melbourne area. Participants would first mark the walks they have done using only the information on the map. After marking as much as they can, they would then place the overlay over the map and indicate how many of the walks shown on the overlay they are familiar with. After completing the instructions on the map and overlay participants would then complete a short survey on the back side of the map.participants would then complete a short survey on the back side of the map.
Design Research Kit
All the communication materials displayed above are designed to be folded into a custom envelope and send to participants who would interact with the media and provide information on the walks and natural attractions they have seen in the greater Melbourne area. The information gathered in this design research kit was used to inform the project displayed below.
Know your backyard train station billboards
These billboards are part of an advertising campaign I designed for a fictional government department named ‘Know your backyard. the billboards are designed to inform Melbourne’s train commuters about the walks an natural attractions that are accessible from the train lines they frequent. The design of these billboards is informed by information gathered through my Design Reserach Kit (displayed above).
Inner south suburbs day walking kit
The above GIF displays the contents of an information kit designed to be delivered to the participants of the fictional ‘Inner south suburbs walking group’. This walking group is run by a speculative government department named ‘Know your backyard’ and is designed to give Melbourne locals the knowledge and skills to better access the nature in their local area.
