Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2024

Hello my name is Erika Yang and I’m a Bachelor of (Communication) Design student. My goal through design is to have a positive impact on the people that view my work and for them to be looked at as a beneficial aspect of their daily lives. Illustration and identity design are my point of interests. As the career I strive and working towards is a potential graphic animator and webcomic artist, I want to be able to inspire others with narrative storytelling and be creative through these avenues.

Business Card

The business card incorporates components such as the logo and illustrative graphic devices that can be seen through the brand. The apple with the glasses is used to re-instill the idea that the Father Bob Foundation is a food support foundation, and the glasses pay homage to the founder, Father Bob Maguire.

Van Design

Father Bob was a represented in media and was shown to be an outstanding personality, using this information I created this van design aligned with his playfulness, including other illustrative characters and their motto ‘WE LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND’.

Character Design 'Piki'

This is my interpretation of ‘Piki’, a young girl who at heart loves nature and enjoys the exploration of it. Using colours that complement each other such as orange and blue, it gives Piki the appearance of being kind and welcoming. Additionally adding the plant sprout and large dandelion seed as earring to demonstrate the fantasy element to this kid’s show.

Style Frame

This style frame was first a frame in the animatic, which had to be developed further as a fully rendered illustration. Softer and muted hues were utilised as a part of the design, showing Piki interact with wildlife around her working with composition to show scale.

Animatic 'Piki's Day Out'

Here is the full animatic, a slideshow almost of the adventures that Piki and her companion ‘Raddy’ go on. A display of what a potential show may look like based on these characters. Using a combination of Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop and After Effects to make it.
