Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2024

Hi, I'm Kailun Chen! I am a communication designer and I am passionate about illustration, animation and making some animated videos. I like to integrate some things encountered in life into my design works, and convey what I want to express through visual language. In my opinion, a multi-cultural background is my advantage. Growing up in China sometimes gives me a unique perspective in my design, while studying in Melbourne brings more to my life than I can see in China. In my opinion, design is a way of communication, which can communicate with the audience through visual language.

Fleeting fridge magnet

I designed the invitation letter for David Moore's photography exhibition. I wanted to make it not only convey the basic information of the exhibition, but also give visitors a symbolic meaning as a souvenir. Anyone who knows David Moore will know that he is a photographer who loves travel photography. When designing, I integrated postcards and refrigerator magnets, which represent tourist souvenirs, into my invitation letter. And there's a retro design in the layout.

Fleeting postcards

When designing the postcard set, I considered using David Moore's photography work as the cover, and then using the design element of deep red to design the font on the postcard, so that it has a collision effect between contemporary and old school. And on the cover package of the card, I chose to use each postcard for collage design to make it have a sense of story.

Fleeting gallery facade column flag

In the design of the publicity poster, I adopted a blank design and then built a sense of story in the left and right three photos. In the design of the two red banners, I used the title of the exhibition and the name of the artist to design.

The Bushfire Foundation logo design

For The rebranding of The Bushfire Foundation, I chose to combine two elements of the brand, the shield and the shovel. I wanted to visually inject The Bushfire Foundation with a strong sense of community behind it.

The Bushfire Foundation T-shirt

This t-shirt is based on a photo that illustrates a firefighter carrying a koala out of a fire, In the brand transformation of the bush fire, I used a concise and easy to understand logo and a lot of illustrations to illustrate, because we imagined that various groups, mostly children, would convey our ideas and wishes to protect nature and prevent forest fires.

The Bushfire Foundation Poster

In the poster design, I just used an animation form with the head of a firefighter as the background design and then a fireman walking out of the fire scene, hoping to present a shot of a hero walking out of the fire scene to the audience. Then the bold yellow font title also wants to highlight the glory of being a fire hero in the community.
