Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2024

As a designer, I see each project as an invitation to venture into the unknown, uncovering peculiarities that blur the line between imagination and reality. My work dives into the surreal and strange, drawing on the human condition, the ambiguities of our environmental futures, and dystopian possibilities that reflect our collective anxieties and hopes. With roots in classical art, surrealism, 80 futurism, and the visual rebellion of music posters, I weave these influences into illustrations that keep the viewer coming back to find new small details. Each design is a synthesis of past and future, bringing forth strange creatures and landscapes to create a world of intrigue and wonder.

the Mysterious Land of Flinders

the task was to observe and create a publication about a place, mine was flinders. This place is a vast and rural area of rich natural beauty with its rolling hills, farmlands, bushlands as well as a small local town. This beautiful place of solace however shows subtle brushstrokes of raw dangerous power in the form of the relentless oceans waves and powerful winds taking their brutal judgement out on the land. This eternal war between land and sea has laid wake to sheer cliffs and dangerously unstable footings creating an enchanting yet treacherous place. here, i felt a strange watchful presence, was it someone or something? this mystic feeling is what i wanted to capture in these works.

the lightkeepers shadow

This is an image sequence that followers a lighthouse keepers decent into madness, whilst a sinister lighthouse stands as a silent accomplice to a gruesome crime. This is a miniature that was then photographed.

YUKIO - sushi train... in a truck!

Ukiyo is a bold, mobile sushi brand blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern street food culture. The eye-catching design features a dragon-like sea creature wrapped around sushi rolls, styled in the spirit of ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints) with vibrant colors like red, yellow, and blue. The bold “UKIYO” typography and tagline, “Sushi Train… In a Truck,” playfully reimagine the sushi experience as a dynamic, on-the-go adventure. Ukiyo combines heritage and contemporary flair, inviting customers to savor the art and flavor of sushi in a unique, visually captivating way.

illustration classes

These digital paintings juxtapose surreal characters with unsettling, humorous narratives. The first image, titled "Duck Hunting Day," features an anthropomorphic duck in a suit, holding a rifle against a pastoral countryside backdrop, evoking a strange role-reversal in hunting. The second image shows a young girl taking a giant, menacing, insect-like creature with large eyes and multiple limbs for a walk against an ominous, dimly lit townscape. The contrast between the vintage style and eerie subject matter gives the pieces a surreal, darkly comedic feel, blending nostalgia with the bizarre.

How to become King

This illustrated book tells the story of a young boy learning from a greedy king who teaches him the ruthless steps to gain power. The king encourages manipulation and selfishness, treating people as tools for personal gain. As the boy realises the emptiness of these lessons, the king grotesquely transforms into a cockroach, symbolising the ugliness of his greed and corruption. The dark, ornate illustrations reinforce the story’s cautionary theme, highlighting the dangers of unchecked ambition and the moral decay it brings.

SYMBIOSI

This picture book follows the journey of a young girl living in the historic city of Prato, Italy, as she faces a choice that will shape both her life and her city. Through vivid illustrations, the story presents two diverging paths—one where the girl chooses to embrace nature, and another where she rejects it, showing the stark contrasts between living in harmony with the environment and neglecting it.
