The Parnngurr Community Office and Women’s and Children’s Centre is shaped by Martu ways of living, where life flows naturally between land, family, and community. Separate blocks for the Office, CHSP, and Daycare are connected through open verandahs, shaded gathering areas, and play spaces that bring people together. At its heart, the shared kitchen and family room nurture connection and care. Built with prefabricated lightweight structures and a ventilated double roof, the design ensures efficiency, comfort, and durability in the desert climate.

Isometric view

Designed as a cluster of separate blocks, this isometric view presents the Parnngurr Community Office and Women’s and Children’s Centre, highlighting shaded verandahs, active gathering spaces, and playful outdoor areas that thread between the buildings, forming a dynamic network fostering movement, connection, and community life.

Weaving Spaces for Community Life

The design of this project is inspired by the Martu people’s way of living, where life flows naturally between indoor and outdoor spaces. The layout brings this idea to life through connected outdoor zones, including shaded verandahs, gathering areas, and play spaces that strengthen community ties and sustain a close connection to Country.

Kitchen as the Social Hub

The kitchen serves as the social heart of the project, bringing people together through shared meals and gatherings. A bar window connects the kitchen to the children’s outdoor play area, allowing easy interaction and serving during playtime or community events.

Learning Through Play

The daycare provides a safe, nurturing space where children can learn and play while staying connected to community
