Ami Bhhadani

This project envisions a culturally grounded, community centered hub designed to support and celebrate the local Indian community while remaining inclusive to the wider neighborhood. The proposal preserves the existing residential houses on site, allowing the new community center to be built above them. This approach protects cultural memory, reduces demolition waste, and minimizes additional embodied energy, reinforcing the project’s sustainable ethos.

The plaza beside the community center links directly into the broader green corridor system, forming a continuous recreational and social spine. Together, the community center, plaza, and green corridor create an integrated, culturally vibrant, and environmentally responsive precinct that strengthens collective identity while enriching the urban fabric.

The center is intentionally positioned beside an underutilized baseball field, re imagining it as a flexible, multipurpose open ground capable of hosting Indian festivals, community events, and seasonal celebrations. The project extends beyond its site boundary, strengthening urban linkages through an integrated pathway system. This new connection stitches together the thresholds between mosaic zones and opens opportunities for more interactive, community-focused spaces in the future.

The ground floor preserves the existing residential houses and being converted into the commercial public spaces to survive the broad urban network. While, the elevated community center, the revitalize open field, and the adjoining green corridor form an integrated social landscape. The plaza beside the center acts as a shared civic heart, an inviting threshold where movement, gathering, and celebration intersect.

By weaving cultural symbolism, environmental performance, and community activation into one cohesive strategy, the project creates a vibrant and inclusive precinct that not only serves the Indian community but enriches the urban life of the entire area.
