Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2025

I create architectural works that sit between memory, landscape, and material culture. My practice focuses on how people move, gather, and experience the city, using design as a tool to reveal hidden layers of history and place.

Irabin Hybrid Bridge

This project is a hybrid bridge that spans across South Road and includes office, retail, and parking functions. The concept was developed in response to the high volume of pedestrians moving between the nearby train and bus stations, and the danger of crossing South Road due to heavy traffic. The design process began with urban planning stages, including the development of building envelopes that improve daylight access for both the buildings and the streets, as shown in the video

A View of the Project

In the ground floor of the project, where the retail spaces are located, brick has been used as one of the oldest materials in Iranian architecture. Traditional Iranian vaults are also incorporated into the design. This project represents a fusion of histories and cultures.

A View of the Project

In this project, solar panels and a one-meter-thick green roof have been designed to soften the industrial and rigid appearance of the building and to support sustainable design. In addition, native and Aboriginal plant species have been incorporated to help attract indigenous fauna back into the area.

Section

The site is located adjacent to the railway, and the building form is inspired by its movement, which is reflected in the design of the railings and the arrangement of the floors. Additionally, the western aluminum panels of the project are inspired by Iranian brickwork patterns. The western façade is articulated to maximize daylight from the north and south while minimizing exposure to harsh western sunlight.

Square Plaza and Retail

The project ramp is designed to create a small central plaza. The combination of brick, native Australian trees, and Aboriginal paintings and artworks on the plaza walls reflects a fusion of cultures and histories. In the retail areas, the façades are designed to preserve the pedestrian walkway for window-shopping while adding visual interest through zigzag walls, transforming the sidewalk from a simple, monotonous space into a dynamic one. Planters in front of the shop windows provide seating and incorporate native plants.

Urban Design Steps

Twelve urban design stages were completed for this project, with all twelve layers integrated to achieve the optimal design. The building envelopes are also designed to ensure adequate daylight reaches all sidewalks during winter.
