Artisan Zoning; Recalibration of Maribyrnong River Creative Industries Ecosystem
To support Footscray’s local creative industries ecosystem, this proposal recalibrates existing planning provisions by specifying the Special Use Zone for creative land uses, rezoning Industrial Zone 3 to a Fabrication Zone to protect from future land use speculation and industrial gentrification, and introducing a new land-use term, “Arts and Creative Enterprises,” to support agglomerating local creative industries that are community-oriented, customer-facing and educational. These place-based solutions make industrial activity more compatible with surrounding neighbourhoods, providing inclusivity for key local economic actors among the city’s dense complexity.
