Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2025

Hi! I’m Zoey Qiao, an industrial design student interested in how technology can feel calm, human, and emotionally aware. I love exploring the intersections of product, graphic, and UI design — blurring the boundaries between disciplines to create experiences that connect people, technology, and emotion.

My graduate project, Lumé, is a sensory-friendly wearable for adults with ADHD. Inspired by jewelry, it helps users manage focus through gentle tactile and visual feedback instead of overwhelming notifications, promoting comfort, self-awareness, and long-term acceptance in daily life.

Lumé

Lumé is a sensory-friendly wearable designed to help adults with ADHD stay focused and calm in everyday life. Instead of using constant alerts or reminders, it offers gentle tactile and visual feedback that lets users sense time and attention more naturally. Inspired by the form and emotion of jewelry, Lumé combines touch-based interaction, abstract time visuals, and simple self-recording features. Through this project, I wanted to explore how technology can feel more human — blending quietly into personal style while supporting comfort and long-term well-being.

Lumé – Band Connection Detail

This series shows the connection detail of the Lumé wristband. The semi-loop slot allows the metal ring to rotate slightly for a natural wrist fit while keeping a secure hold.

Lumé-Interaction flow 1

This series shows the interaction flow of Lumé, from standby mode to time display, focus session, and self-recording. The moon phase animation represents the abstract passage of time — a calm, less pressuring way to visualise focus. When a session ends, users record their focus level through gentle tactile input. The sequence highlights how Lumé replaces traditional countdowns with sensory cues that feel natural and emotionally balanced.

Lumé – Mobile App Interface

The Lumé app connects with the wearable to visualise focus sessions and progress over time. It presents weekly insights, focus quality, and session duration in a calm, minimal interface.
