Sensory Landscapes is a multisensory environmental experience that invites people in 2125 to reconnect with the simple joys and freedoms found in Australia’s natural environments, specifically landscapes that may not exist in their world. Through immersive visuals and atmospheric design, the installation recreates the feeling of unstructured play, allowing participants to interact with and reflect on the beauty of past environments. Inspired by the Astor Theatre in St Kilda, Victoria, Sensory Landscapes explores the reimagining of a cinema in response to the rise of streaming platforms and the possibility that many theatres may one day be abandoned.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
