Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE)

Anchored within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, this ambitious research program is trialling innovative and sustainable water and sanitation solutions in 24 informal settlements in Fiji and Indonesia, working with communities, governments, local leaders and global partners, to transform human, environmental and ecological health in informal settlements across the developing world.
Citarum Action Research Program

We’re working with the Indonesian government to clean up the world’s dirtiest river through the Citarum Action Research Program (CARP).

Net Zero Precincts

The Monash Sustainable Development Institute’s Net Zero Precincts project is helping create cities that use net zero energy, are resilient to climate change, and support diverse communities. The project aims to develop new insights to help transform cities and regions to net zero.
Fire to Flourish

Our Bushfire Resilience Program will trial and scale a new model of community-led resilience in bushfire affected communities, amplified through partnerships with government, philanthropic, not-for-profit and private sector organisations.

Our Disaster Resilience Initiative is applying the concept of resilience to climate and disaster risk reduction, by harnessing our university-wide expertise with the goal of strengthening community-based disaster resilience, through high-quality research, education and community engagement.
World Mosquito Program

The World Mosquito Program (WMP) is a not-for-profit group of companies owned by Monash University that works to protect the global community from mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever and chikungunya. WMP uses naturally occurring bacteria called Wolbachia to reduce the ability of mosquitoes to transmit viruses that cause life-threatening disease.
