IDAHOBIT

About IDAHOBIT

IDAHOBIT is the anniversary of 17 May 1990, when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. The first IDAHOBIT was held in 2005, and today it’s acknowledged by millions of people globally. While IDAHOBIT has evolved over the years, the purpose remains the same: celebrate the progress we’ve made, while also raising awareness for the discrimination that Rainbow and LGBTIQA+ communities still face today.

At Monash, we remain steadfast in our commitments to championing and advocating for change, and in working together to create safer and more inclusive communities at Monash – for everyone.

While we celebrate 17 May and the advancements it represents, it’s also a time for reflection and acknowledgement of the work yet to be done. You can learn more about IDAHOBIT and its history on the Australian IDAHOBIT website.
