Wear it Purple Day
Wear it Purple Day
Friday 29 August 2025
On the last Friday in August each year, the Monash community celebrates Wear it Purple Day. By wearing purple, we can demonstrate to all rainbow young people that they are celebrated and respected, acknowledging that all have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.
Wear it Purple 2025
This year, we’re celebrating Wear it Purple day on Friday 29 August.
The theme is "Bold Voices, Bright Futures", with artwork by Lee Evatt (he/them), winner of Wear it Purple’s Youth Action Council (YAC) Design Competition, to create a campaign message and artwork in celebration of LGBTQIA+ people openly and visibly achieving their dreams in sport, art, science, and more!

About the day
Since its inception in Australia in 2010, Wear it Purple Day has supported and celebrated LGBTIQA+ youth and their right to a safe, inclusive and empowering environment to grow up in.
The day was founded in response to real stories of LGBTIQA+ youth who took their own lives after experiencing bullying and a lack of acceptance by their families and communities. Wear it Purple Day shows young rainbow people across the world that they are accepted, supported, and part of a global community – all LGBTIQA+ people have the right to be proud of who they are.
