Wear it Purple Day
Wear It Purple Day
Friday 28 August 2026
Wear It Purple Day is celebrated annually on the last Friday in August. By wearing purple, we show Rainbow and LGBTIQA+ young people around us that they are seen, heard, and valued for who they are and who they’re becoming.
Wear It Purple 2026
This year, Wear It Purple Day falls on Friday 28 August.
The theme is "Colours of Courage", recognising the continual courage of Rainbow and LGBTIQA+ young people and allies, whatever form of courage that may be. For some, this might look like coming out or expressing pride in our unique sexualities, identities and expressions. For others, it may be advocating for change or speaking out against harmful behaviours.
How to get involved
If you’re looking for an easy way to get involved, we encourage you to pick out your best purple outfit and Wear it Purple with us on the day! Tag us in any photos with #MonashUni.

About the day
Since its inception in Australia in 2010, Wear It Purple Day has supported and celebrated Rainbow and LGBTIQA+ young people and their right to a safe, inclusive and empowering environment to grow up in.
The day was founded in response to real stories of LGBTIQA+ youth who took their own lives after experiencing bullying and a lack of acceptance by their families and communities. Wear It Purple Day shows young rainbow people across the world that they are accepted, supported, and part of a global community – all Rainbow and LGBTIQA+ people have the right to be proud of who they are.
