Wunungu Awara research project 2011 - 2024

The Wunungu Awara research project was conducted at Monash University between 2011 and circa 2024 by a multidisciplinary research team working in collaboration with Indigenous knowledge holders and communities.The research aimed to support Indigenous Australian communities in language preservation and continuation of the associated inter-generational learning and knowledge sharing, through producing animations in partnership with Australian Indigenous communities, groups and organisations that tell their stories.

Wunungu Awara Limited

Following completion of the research, elements of the research outputs have been taken forward by Wunungu Awara Limited, an independent not‑for‑profit organisation who is responsible for their further development, adaptation, and application, in accordance with its mission and governance arrangements. Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property remains with the relevant Indigenous communities, and institutional attribution does not imply ownership of Indigenous knowledge. Wunungu Awara Ltd. acknowledges the valuable contributions made to the development of the Wunungu Awara materials by Monash University.
