Richard Cogswell SC

Richard Cogswell SC is an Honorary Professor at the University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Business and Law and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Psychiatry at UNSW Medicine. Richard practiced law for just under three decades, initially as a solicitor and then at the NSW Bar, where he was appointed Senior Counsel in 1997. He served as NSW Crown Advocate in 2000, later becoming a judge of the NSW District Court in 2007, handling both civil and criminal cases.

From 2016 to 2019, Richard was President of the NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal, where he focused on complex mental health matters. He has taught mental health and law since 2019 and continues to share his extensive expertise through academia and professional engagements.
