Our research program is highly focused towards translational medicine in the pursuit of improved clinical outcomes for patients. We are actively engaged in collaborative clinical projects with The Alfred Hospital, Box Hill Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.

Testimionials

Dr Louise Rowntree (PhD student 2012-2016, Postdoc 2016-2019): “I completed my PhD and first post-doctoral position with Nicole, working on allo-HLA cross-reactivity where one T cell is able to recognise two different HLA molecules in the setting of solid organ transplantation. Nicole provided me with the opportunity to work on a well-defined project with strong clinical links. The laboratory environment Nicole creates is supportive, inclusive and highly collaborative. In addition, I found Nicole to be highly invested in her students and staff’s success, and she is always excited about ongoing projects.”

Ms Stephanie Davies (Honours student 2018): “I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a student under the supervision of Dr Mifsud. I commenced my BMedSc with no prior experience with working in a laboratory environment and limited basic science knowledge. Nonetheless, I was incredibly supported and Dr Mifsud took the extra time to teach me right from the very basics. When I was ready, I was also given the freedom to work more independently, knowing that Dr Mifsud would always be there to help if I got into trouble. Undertaking my BMedSc with Dr Mifsud was an incredibly valuable experience and I learnt immensely from her teaching. I am very glad I chose to spend my BMedSc in her laboratory and would highly recommend working under Dr Mifsud’s supervision to other students for the support and guidance she provides.”
