Research

The research need

In the world we are living and working - a world that needs to deal with complexity, uncertainty, volume and speed and where innovation and creativity are needed to anticipate change - we need people with different strengths and capabilities successfully working together to solve complex engineering problems.

The research questions

Individual

  • How do we create goal setting and action setting processes that create individual, shared and collective responsibility?
  • How do we measure the impact of these outcomes?
  • How do we develop the reflective practice that supports lifelong learning in teams?

Team

  • How do we measure effective team work? Particularly unpacking differences in impact of cooperative behaviour vs better outcomes/products
  • What are the more challenging interpersonal and thinking skills that VUCA workplaces require?
  • How can we create learning experiences that develop these skills?
  • How do we create experiences that develop social responsibility? What is the impact of developing teamwork skills on this?

Leaders

  • What are the tools we need to provide for students who want to learn about leading to optimise team performance?
