Qianbing Zhang
Dr. Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in geomechanics and tunnelling engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering. He received his PhD from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), and prior to joining Monash, he was a postdoctoral researcher at EPFL and University of Cambridge. He has been the Associate Editor and then the Editor-in-Chief of an Elsevier Journal Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology (JCR-Q1, Impact Factor=3.942, and CiteScore=5.0) since 2016.
PhD Students
Kai Liu
Kai commenced his PhD research at Monash University in May, 2016. Before that he started the successive undergraduate and master degree in mining engineering at Northeastern University, China since 2009. He is now working on the PhD Project “Dynamic Fracturing Behaviors of Rocks under Multi-axial Loadings” using a Triaxial Hopkinson Bar, which aims to reveal dynamic response of geo-materials to various confinement and high strain rates. His research interests also cover digital rock physics (e.g. micro X-ray computed tomography, SEM and thin section) and high-speed Digital Image Correlation(DIC) techniques.
Gonglinan (Jack) Wu
Jack graduated from Monash University Australia with a Bachelor of Mining Engineering. He is currently researching on tool induced rock breakage under dynamic loadings and complex stress conditions. He is also interested in rock shear behavior and microscale fractures of rock and minerals.
Minghe Ju
Minghe Ju holds the qualifications in BE (Mining Engineering) and MSE (Mining Engineering) from China University of Mining and Technology. Minghe is now a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University. He is currently researching on the dynamic fracture of layer-based and grain-based composite geo-structures and geomaterials in terms of experimental and numerical methods. He is also interested in rock fracture in deep mining and resources.
Mengqi Huang
Mengqi Huang received her Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering (Honours) from Monash University in 2018. She commenced her PhD study in August 2018. Her current research interests focus on smart underground construction with building information modelling and deep learning.
Wanrui Hu
Wanrui Hu holds qualifications in BE (Hydropower Engineering) and MSE (Hydraulic Structure Engineering) from the Wuhan University. He has been a PhD candidate in resources engineering since 2018. His thesis topic focuses on dynamic fracturing and fragmentation of brittle materials. His current research interests include coupled continuum-discrete modelling of dynamic compression and shear behaviors of rock under multiaxial loading.
Huachuan Wang
Huachuan Wang received the Bachelor degree (Civil engineering) in 2015 and Master degree(Tunnelling engineering) in 2018 from Beijing Jiaotong University. He commenced his PhD study at Monash University in September 2018. His research topic is dynamic behaviour of concrete materials under multiaxial confinements. His research interests include dynamic failure mechanism of concrete materials, dynamic measurement methods and new-type concrete materials.
Tingwen Sun
Tingwen Sun received the B.E. degree in civil and environmental engineering from Monash University in 2016. She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in civil engineering at Monash University. Her research topic is microwave assisted fracturing and breakage of hard rocks.
Jing Li
Jing Li received bachelor degree (Mining) at Anhui University of Science and Technology in China and master degree (Mining) at the China University of Mining and Technology. He commenced his PhD on September 2017 at Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University. Jing’s current research interests are underground coal mining, coal bursts, mining-induced seismicity and acoustic emission.
Saeed Aligholi
Saeed holds a qualification of B.Sc. in Applied Geology from Shahrood University of Technology, where he graduated as the top student. He also did a M.Sc. in Engineering Geology on Brilliant Talent Award from Iran Ministry of Science, Research and Technology at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, who is honored that graduated as the top student. His master degree thesis title is “Evaluation of abrasiveness potential of igneous rocks using the NTNU abrasion apparatus”, for which he has obtained the maximum score. He is an expert in the field of automatic microstructural quantification of rock materials by means of image processing and pattern recognition techniques, and understanding the relationship between physical, mechanical and dynamical properties of rock materials. He has published his findings and contributions in high ranked Q1 journals. His current research focus is on understanding rock physics – fracture mechanics relationship by means of determining process zone of rock materials through statistical physics methods and roughness analysis.
Huamei Zhu
Huamei Zhu got her master’s degree of Transportation Engineering from Southeast University and Monash University Joint Graduate School. Her main research topic is the AI-based technique in underground construction. She is aiming to measure the size distribution of rock slags created by TBM using digital image processing approaches. She is also interested in machine learning and computer vision-related methods for detecting and monitoring tunnel cracks.
Zecheng Chen
Zecheng Chen (Albert) graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Mining Engineering. He is currently research in numerical modelling of underground engineering projects. Zecheng’s research interests include ground supports mechanisms, interaction between modelling elements and advanced constitutive model of rock mass.
Zhihang Li
Zhihang Li received his BE (Honours) from the University of Monash in 2018. Zhihang is now a MEngSc (Research) candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University. He is Currently researching on the TBM performance prediction with neural network. He is also interested in the application of neural network in tunnelling.
