Fayuan Huang PhD completion

We warmly congratulate Dr. Fayuan Huang on being awarded his PhD for his thesis titled “CFD-DEM Modelling and Analysis of Particle Tribocharging in Pneumatic Conveying.”

This research project represents a significant contribution to advancing industrial processes through innovative modelling and design. Building on more than a decade of continuous development, the CFD–DEM framework—under the leadership of A/Prof Shibo Kuang—has been applied across a wide range of industries, including tailings management, oil extraction, sewage treatment, and pneumatic and hydraulic transportation. This PhD project further extends the framework to account for non-spherical particles and tribocharging processes in multiphase flows, with A/Prof Kuang serving as the main supervisor.

In this project, Dr. Huang further validated the CFD–DEM model in pneumatic conveying and fluidization systems, and the refined charging model was also validated in particulate systems, such as hopper and chute flows, as well as in multiphase systems. This work elucidates the mechanisms governing tribocharging, conveying performance, and pipe erosion, and more importantly, provides predictive guidance for mitigating electrostatic hazards, optimizing pipeline design, and reducing wear in industrial powder transport systems, thereby improving efficiency and reliability.

We are proud of this outstanding achievement and look forward to continuing our efforts to support the advancement of particle handling and transportation technologies toward greater efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
