Chief Information Officer, Monash University

My current role as Chief Information Officer has enterprise-wide responsibility for driving end-to-end Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and process reform.

I see myself as a vehicle to create positive disruption, to ensure Monash is at the forefront of technical innovations to improve efficiency, effectiveness and continuous transformation. I champion Monash as a category breaker, focused on delivering large-scale projects to ultimately improve our staff and student experience. I actively look outside the IT and Higher Education sectors for examples of best practice, while motivating from within.

How can women support other women at Monash?

When women support each other incredible things happen and we need to continue to do this through listening and encouraging each other to take opportunities. In these challenging times, women need each other more than ever in the workplace. We must place emphasis to connect with each other through deep conversations that will lead to stronger and sustainable relationships.

There are many ways to support women in the workplace. It's the simple things that make a difference:

• Be mindful, remember the challenges you had climbing the ladder and breaking the ceilings and afford those learnings to other women,
• Create a nurturing space for other women; be approachable and respectful, encourage an open door policy.
• Offer to mentor and coach another young professional woman to help them through their career journey.
• Network more. Ask a female colleague you work with for lunch or a coffee.
• Celebrate successes together; no matter how big or small.
• Recognise each other's talents and give a shoutout where it's deserved.

I would encourage you to take opportunities where you can to connect and collaborate with other people in the workplace. Never underestimate the power of being united.

What advice would you give to the next generation of women leaders?

My advice to the next generation of women is be open minded to the possibilities, the future you can create is up to you. Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, push the boundaries through resilience and hard work. Follow your passion and always give it your best.

Be yourself and be proud of your past and how you got to where you are today. Be real and consistent with your personal behaviours and values which define who you are as a person and as a leader.
