Monash was proud to host our annual International Women’s Day event, featuring an inspiring panel of Monash women who came together to reflect on gender equity, shared lived experience and challenged us to think differently about meaningful and lasting change.

In the lead-up to this year’s International Women's Day (8 March), we invited staff to join us at the Alexander Theatre, Clayton Campus on Tuesday 3 March for an important conversation on gender equity.

Theme

Balance the Scales

The UN Women Australia’s official theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026 is Balance the Scales. It recognises that persistent barriers continue to limit gender equality and calls for collective action amplifying diverse voices so that fairness, opportunity and inclusion become the norm rather than the exception.

This year’s celebration was hosted by Professor Allie Clemans, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and Senior Vice-President. The event was opened with an address from Monash University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, and featured a panel of inspiring Monash women whose leadership and lived experience make them powerful voices in advancing gender equality.
