How the program works – and who should apply

As our industry partner, you will:

Nominate an existing employee to help them upskill – and work towards a doctoral qualification or
Choose a Monash industry doctoral candidate – infusing new expertise into your business by embedding in a qualified engineer.

For business nominating an existing employee

What can you expect when you get in touch?
- Briefing: First, we’ll ask you to walk us through your requirements, challenges and opportunities – and introduce us to the employee you have in mind.
- Scoping: We will work with you to develop a detailed scope.
- Engagement: Working closely with your team and Monash, your employee will build a portfolio of solutions: adding even more value to your business through pilots, business cases or campaigns.
- Presentation: At the end of the program, your employee will detail the impact of their achievements on your business.
- Results: You’re left with tangible results. And a motivated, upskilled employee with an intimate understanding of your business – and a PhD.
What are your responsibilities? During the course of the program, you will:
- Mentor: Provide a mentor from your business to work closely with the student – and Monash – throughout their time with you.
- Engage with Monash: Work with a Monash academic supervisor or Business Development Manager to outline your project’s scope and requirements.
- Support employees: Maintain a safe and supportive environment for your employees.
- Provide financial support: Cover the cost of facilities academic guidance as determined by our business development team.
How do we help? Monash promises to:
- Scope: Develop the scope of the work and the project’s deliverables.
- Assign an academic – plus two world class researchers – to supervise, advise and support your chosen employee.
- Provide experts: Provide access to a wide, world-class range of experts to solve problems.
- Provide Technology: Give you access to Monash’s wealth of state-of-the-art technology: including large-scale 3D printers, supercomputing infrastructure, and advanced robotics test beds.
- Facilitate training: Facilitate professional training to further enhance your employee’s capabilities.
