Supported by CSIRO, we are working with AEMO (the Australian Energy Market Operator) to develop the “energy control room of the future”.  Initially, this project involved using eye-tracking technology to understand operators’ attention to their information displays during typical control room operations, and we are now prototyping new arrangements for their displays that better fit with their workflows.

We have developed a custom platform “GazeAlytics” that allows us to perform detailed gaze analysis over arbitrary large multiview displays. Future work will look at emerging display technologies such as extended reality to enable operators to perform their critical tasks anywhere, and with better spatial awareness of geographically dependent factors (such as weather and natural disasters) and the electrical grid.
