Zhaoyuan (Derek) He

Zhaoyuan (Derek) holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Adelaide and a Master’s degree in Information Technology and Systems from the University of Tasmania.
His PhD is focusing on developing an NLP and machine learning system to automatically codify patient self-reported reasons for hospital admission into structured clinical codes. The project also explores how hospital staff perceive and engage with this technology to inform human-centred system design and implementation. The goal is to reduce administrative burden and improve consistency in preadmission workflows. This project is conducted in collaboration with the CSIRO Next Generation Graduates Program and our industry partner, EpiSoft.
