Assessing Australians’ Awareness and Perceptions of Online Privacy: A Study on Data Practices and Digital Consent
This project investigates the awareness and understanding of online privacy and data practices among Australians, focusing on their knowledge of corporate and governmental data collection, as well as perceptions of personal control over digital data.
A comprehensive survey of 239 Australians is conducted to assess their familiarity with data privacy regulations, such as the Australian Privacy Act, and their attitudes towards data exchange for benefits.
The study also explores Australians’ concerns about online privacy, the effectiveness of privacy policies, and their ability to protect personal data in an increasingly digital world.
The findings highlight a significant gap in knowledge and a widespread dissatisfaction with current privacy practices, emphasising the need for greater transparency and stronger regulatory frameworks.
