Human-centred Design and Development of a UX Recruitment Support Tool

UX recruitment is a complex task. It includes various activities, such as the identification of a target audience, the creation and distribution of recruitment material, the screening of participants, and the scheduling of calendar events. Albeit tool support being available for each individual step, an off-the-shelf integrated platform to help UX professionals to simplify the recruitment process in a given organisational context are not readily available. Online crowdtesting platforms such as Prolific, Amazon Mechanical Turk or Testbirds offer automation but cannot fill the gap, as they typically cannot be used to recruit participants within a single organisation.

The goal of this project was the creation of a proof-of-concept prototype (POC) of an integrated recruitment platform based on a case study provided by the Mobile UX team at Monash eSolutions. The focus of the project for a team of five final year Bachelor of Software Engineering students was on the identification of human-centric aspects as well as the application of human-centric software development practices. Hence our students incorporated Human-Centred Design (HCD) techniques including perspective-taking, user journey mapping and design prototyping with Figma into an agile software development lifecycle before implementing and evaluating a software prototype. In addition, the students regularly presented their work and collected feedback from our clients throughout the project to ensure that client needs were met.

The project concluded with the presentation of a Firebase POC of an integrated recruitment tool to demonstrate the potential to simplify UX recruitment activities for our client.
