The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is the central office within the University responsible for the management of legal matters. We provide comprehensive legal advice and services to University Council, senior management and staff in relation to the University’s governance and its diverse education, research and commercial endeavours. The Office of the General Counsel also coordinates access to external legal services as required.

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Victoria) gives persons the right to access documents of Monash University in certain circumstances.

Governance
Monash University operates under the Monash University Act 2009 (Vic). This Act replaced the Monash University Act 1958 (Vic), which created Monash University. The Monash University Council is the governing body of Monash University.
