Tommy Nguyen

Being in awe as a child of all the architecture I passed by in the car of my parents, they seemed so majestic and out-of-reach. This lead to an interest in drawing buildings on paper, which then lead to a strong passion for the craft. It is of great satisfaction seeing my own designs come to fruition then bringing them to life with renders and physical models. Modern and contemporary architecture is my preferred type of design.

Sport AIR - A view from the street

A project in which tackles the decline in fitness levels amongst younger people, and the lack of valuable public sporting courts or places, of which they are often left as an afterthought on a park or elsewhere, leaving them less to be desired. The project connects sports with architecture, which then leads to the concept of placing sporting courts, pitches, fields, etc, on balconies, where people have access to amenities. With this, sport is celebrated, users may feel a stronger sense of community and belonging, a sense of safety, all in a dynamic environment which promotes health and well-being. The colour orange radiates energy, and demanding of attention, which is why it was chosen.

Diagram of Form and Programs

The project is a mixed-use building, allowing people within residential and education to co-exist within a single environment, though also open to others. They are surrounded by retail such as cafes, restaurants and kiosks for food and drinks. This drawing displays the placement of each room and spaces within the building and the common travel paths shown in the right drawing. The left diagram shows a more detailed breakdown of program within the building.
