Jenny (Ya-Ning) Yang

From a young age, I was always appreciative of art and enjoyed the process of making things “prettier”, whether it is decorating a cake or painting a vase. As I started my journey in spatial design, I have come to realise that it is so much more than just making things look “pretty” and that I could influence the emotions of others with my creations. The projects I have created are atmospheric, which is apparent throughout my work. I find the non-figurative presentations fun and effective to work with and am looking forward to emerging myself in the world of creativity beyond university.

"The Female Gaze"

Women’s view top down to contradict male gaze

In an era where the objectification of women is so ingrained in us, where sexual assault, rape culture and victim blaming are often excused and exonerated, it creates a society where women’s safety and rights are disregarded. The implementation of the one-way glass dome in nightclubs provides a panopticon effect so that heterosexual men can feel watched and judged within the dome. This will inflict the male gaze onto themselves, as well as tame these men as they will think they are being watched at all times from the outside or above. With this design embedded within future nightclubs, women can finally freely play in nightclubs.
