Hello! My name is Alianah, I am a recent communication design graduate. I have a passion for identity, branding, and publication, creating playful designs that aim to captivate audiences and provoke thought. In my design journey, I’ve experimented with typography, form, and materials, hoping to push the boundaries of what design can achieve. I feel most confident using InDesign as I enjoy creating compelling narratives through strong visual hierarchy. Embracing open-mindedness is important to me, as it fosters creativity and collaboration. It pushes me to be more experimental with my designs.
Star Student, Design Research Kit
The DRK takes the shape of a school folder and includes five activities. In order to learn about people's relationships with perfectionism, participants were given a research kit to complete. The DRK revealed that the majority of participants have negative relationships with perfection, do not believe it is attainable, and perceive themselves as their worst critic. The kit's findings were then utilised to create a creative and targeted campaign.
Redefining Perfection, Poster Series
My activation campaign, Redefining Perfection, aims to prompt reflection, inspire people, and build healthier relationships with perfectionism. This is a series of posters promoting the pop-up installation and cause. It raises awareness through compelling imagery and messaging. The series conveys a narrative that helps build excitement.
Redefining Perfection, Pop-up Installation
The campaign's primary outcome is a pop-up installation in Shot Tower Square, a bustling area in Melbourne Central. There are different activities, which provide people with a fun and immersive experience. The campaign is all about challenging the notion of perfection and celebrating individuality. This installation will help bring people together by sparking important conversations. The vibrant wall featuring illustrations and signage serves as a backdrop for pictures. It will drive social media attention, spreading the message to a larger audience
Redefining Perfection, Postcards
Three inspirational postcards are available at the installation and in cafes throughout Melbourne. The installation's location is on the back, which will help draw in more people. Each postcard conveys a motivational message, and visitors are asked to take only what they need.
Seeing Shapes, Publication
This is a publication on Prahran, an inner suburb in Melbourne. The purpose of the book is to promote the suburb but in a playful and subtle manner. After observing Prahran, I became aware of the various shapes. I wanted to promote the amenities, culture, and strong sense of community using shapes and their symbolic meanings, such as how rectangles represent protection and circles signify peace.
WIRES, Brand Guidelines
WIRES is a non-profit wildlife organisation that cares for sick and injured animals. Their mission is to protect native animals by rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintroducing them into the wild. My goal for this redesign was to instill compassion in the younger generation through compelling messaging and create an identity that communicates urgency.
