Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2023

Hi there, I'm Jason, I specialise in UX/UI Design, Web Design and Brand Identity. My activation project, "Ikigai", explores an ancient Japanese philosophy that has existed for hundreds of years. It can be translated as "the reason of being", which refers to finding a direction or purpose that makes one’s life worthwhile and achieves enduring happiness. To help the audience dive deeper into this concept, I created a series of digital/print posters and billboards that promote my digital mindfulness journal app that serves as our life's compass, pointing to that sweet spot where doing what we love meets making an impact, and even getting paid for it.

'Ikigai - Digital Poster'

The digital posters serve as a promotional tool to introduce viewers to the concept of “Ikigai”. Each coloured sphere in the posters represents four key "dimensions" that contribute to a sense of purpose and fulfilment in life. The animation also highlights a variety of meanings when two "dimensions" collide together.

IKIGAI - Promotional posters

These posters serve as a promotion, allowing viewers to scan the QR code for direct access to the IKIGAI digital platform.

IKIGAI - Venue Screen

This activation is a venue screen that projects real-time inputs from individuals as they type in responses to the four "dimensions" of Ikigai: "what you love," "what you are good at," "what the world needs," and "what you can get paid for" through the mobile app. This design application aims to foster inclusivity and warmth within the venue, creating a transparent environment. This activation enables everyone in the room to feel welcomed and comfortable, encouraging them to openly share their personal journeys and create connections with other people's ideas.

IKIGAI - Billboard

This activation serves as a digital platform promotion. It encourages viewers to share their ideas by writing their answers on the Ikigai dimensions: "what you love," "What you are good at," "What the world needs," and "What you can get paid for."

Ikigai- Digital Journal App

The Ikigai Digital Journal is the heart of the entire activation project. It offers detailed guidance to users on uncovering their passions, defining their life purpose, and cultivating happiness through the journal app. The aim of this activation is to reach users’ hearts and prompt them with challenging questions, encouraging them to reflect honestly. Users are also guided to delve deeply into every facet of their lives, identifying common threads that bring them joy and ignite their true passions. Ultimately led them to discover their “Ikigai.”
