“Interactive Inquiry” is the result of a one year-long research project, which revolves around the research question: How might we inquire into how an individual’s reliance on their mobile phone is influenced by their environment. The form in which the inquiry takes shape is that of a public installation. The installation is thoughtfully designed to facilitate simple types of interactions – that is pasting stickers and optional writing comments or thoughts– with the aim of encouraging participation from the public. The three prompts are carefully selected to provoke contemplation regarding each participant’s personal relationship with their mobile phone.
Interactive Inquiry
The installation features black foam core board with white gloss acrylic texts, mounted on the wall.
Interactive Inquiry: Interaction Tools
The side panel provides interaction tools: stickers and markers. Simple instructions are also provided to encourage the use of stickers and markers.
Interactive Inquiry: Stickers
Three expressions of stickers representing positive, neutral, and negative are provided for participants to choose from.
Interactive Inquiry: Pasting Stickers
The main way participants can answer the inquiry is through the interaction of pasting stickers.
Interactive Inquiry: Silver Markers
Silver markers are provided to encourage written discussions between participants, although they are not mandatory.
Interactive Inquiry: Writing Thoughts
Writing down thoughts can help give context and depth to the thoughts of participants, which could lead to indirect discussions between participants.
