The Waste to Energy Power Plant continues the site's long standing industrial role with a focus on sustainability, transforming the quarry's waste into functional building materials. Using recycled bricks, terrazzo, and rubble, the construction employs a system of tree columns, concrete ribbed slabs, and thin shell concrete roofs.
The power plant creates a self sustaining loop, where waste from the quarry is reprocessed and recycled, contributing to both the construction of the building and energy generation, powering both the site and surrounding community.
In the spirit of reconciliation Monash University acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
