Responding to the necessary shift from landfill disposal to a circular economy, a workshop and storage shed at the SBI landfill site functions as a sorting, storage, and showroom facility, enabling ecological remediation without disrupting existing construction waste disposal systems. Constructed with reclaimed bricks and mud bricks made from green waste from the Cranbourne gardens, the workshop space is designed for future adaptability, with the polycarbonate extension allowing the building to shifting into greenhouse, propagation area, admin building or cafe. Through using a modular, readily available and low-cost materials, the buildings are designed with future disassembly in mind.

Plan, storage shed

The storage shed is divided into two sections. One side is designated for small particle materials like mulch, sand, and recycled aggregates, while the other side is for palletised items, bricks, timber, and tiles. At the end of the building, an under cover drive-through area allows vehicles to easily pick up or drop off reclaimed, salvages or recycled materials.

Plan, workshop

The workshop building contains workbenches, storage shelves, offices, communal kitchen and bathrooms, with the connected polycarbonate building folding open, to create an indoor - outdoor workshop and storage facility, allowing small trucks to drive through and pick up / drop off building materials. The building can adapt for future uses by the Royal Botanic Gardens such as a nursery, greenhouse or propagation area, administration spaces, a caretakers cottage or a food and beverage offering.
