Hello! I am a communication designer with interests in brand identity, UX/UI, digital publications and short video productions. Upon graduating, i hope to work in a branding or UX/UI company to build my skills. Throughout my journey as a designer, i have thoroughly enjoyed the background research of my projects as much as designing outcomes. This is because there is a lot of value in understanding the ‘why’ and ‘how’ to better connect and understand the needs of potential clients. The first project below is a rebrand of Next Wave. It helps emerging artists kickstart their career in the Arts. Next, are outcomes of the brand ‘minds', which i created to help with information overload.
Minds: Self Help Journal
Information overload occurs when the brain is unable to process new information resulting in detachment and frustration. Since this subject required a more personal approach, i designed a monthly self-help journal. The activities in this book was designed for awareness, habit-formation and mindfulness. The mint green with bolder, contrasting purple and blues allow for a soothing effect while still ensuring that information is not skimmed over. Additionally, an array of paper sizes and graphics were used throughout the book to create layers and visual interest respectively.
Minds: Poster Series
While the journal was a more personal outcome, these posters were aimed at a wider audience to remind them not to neglect their mental health, but instead prioritise it. Expressive graphics of the brain were positioned at different areas on each poster to give them a playful look. Each poster also uses different coloured text to create visual hierarchy. Additionally, to jumpstart the act of caring for your mind, when the QR code is scanned, viewers will be directed to a video on mindful breathing.
Minds: Video Guide on Mindful Breathing
By following along with the interactive video, users can regulate their breathing for a calmer mind. Apart from the instructions, a timed visual of a circle rhythmically expanding and contracts. This tells the user if they should inhale or exhale. Lastly, the smooth transitions between different frames of the video add to the calming effect.
Next Wave: Brand Assets
The bright colours and dynamic patterns are a reflection of the enthusiasm and passion of Next Wave in guiding young artists to reach their potential. The wave in the logo represents the forward thinking nature of Next Wave that is constantly evolving to meet the needs of its audience hence helping them thrive in an ever-changing landscape.
Next Wave: Digital Identity
From its colour scheme to the patterns and shapes used throughout the different sections, Next Wave’s website is an extension of the brand. With interactive features that are easy to identify and a clear navigation system, the website was created with user experience at the forefront. The encouraging and personal language used on their social media reinforces the brand’s interest of working with emerging artists.
Next Wave: Merchandise
Merchandise helps a brand become recognisable. A well-designed brand-identity ensures that its assets can be used in a variety of different ways. The merchandise above consists of Next Wave’s brand assets being used across numerous applications in different ways. This displays the versatility and longevity of the brand’s design.
