I’m Euan McKenzie, a Melbourne based Industrial Design student who has a passion for innovating design and imagery. I have always had an interest in considered designed objects as they can offer both aesthetics pleasure and function, while enhancing the life of the users.
Combining my love of furniture design with functionality within a medical environment, my project MedSpace is designed to optimize the working environment of clinicians and nurses by providing them with a more easily accessible working space.

MedSpace

MedSpace is a transformable chair which allows medical workers to convert it into a workspace for use in an emergency department. This image shows the product within its intended environment.

Context Use

MedSpace’s table form allows for various objects to be placed on it. The arm rests become apart of the table top to allow for a larger working area.

Transformation Process

A sliding rail mechanism allows MedSpace to transform from chair to table form seamlessly. The backboard slots into grooves on the armrests which give support to the workspace.

Colour Options

The colour options for MedSpace are a light blue and a green. These colours were chosen due to them reducing the intenseness of the environment around them.

Prototype Use

The physical model transforming from chair to table form.

Exploded View

MedSpace’s part count is low for ease of manufacturing and assembly. This view shows all components for the product.
