Today, urban and peri-urban residents account for more than 70% of the 2.2 billion
people in the world who are moderately and severely food insecure. By 2050, 70% of
the world's population is expected to live in cities.

Can we meet the challenges of urbanisation and food insecurity in the future?
This project aims to design a food growing system that can be used indoors to provide
more fresh food to urban residents.

Lumi Flora

As extreme weather intensifies, environmental pollution worsens, and food insecurity rises, people in 2050 will spend more time indoors. Lumi Flora aims to nourish future urban dwellers while reconnecting them with nature. This lightweight, modular hydroponic system, crafted from recycled plastic, delivers moisture and nutrients directly to plant roots. With four dual-sided, adjustable LED light assemblies, it provides custom colour temperatures, supporting continuous plant growth and enhancing indoor ambience around the clock.
