New Botanic Farm

The New Botanic Farm is an innovative urban food production initiative addressing Melbourne’s food security challenges. With 99% of produce sourced from outside the city, the project reduces carbon emissions by transforming vacant land beside wetlands in Cranbourne into a vertical agriculture hub. The wetlands supply water and energy, while orchards act as ecological buffers restoring biodiversity. Integrating the full food cycle—from cultivation to composting and livestock—the design promotes coexistence between people, animals, and nature. Elevated structures and buffer zones protect wildlife, while public planting spaces invite citizens to join sustainable food production.
