Perspective - catalyst proposal

This perspective contains view of new medium density housing and open green space with patches of dense vegetation for native wildlife. Mature trees provide shading, making the environment cooler and more pleasant for outdoor recreation and active transportation. The transformation provides better living conditions for both humans and native wildlife.

Software used: Sketchup, Photoshop

Perspective - existing conditions

This perspective illustrates the existing conditions of the catalyst site, facing south from Bandicoot Boulevard Playground. Contains view of detached housing, roads and ecological corridor in the distance. Low-density housing and portions of the road would be replaced with vegetated open space or medium-density housing. The intention is to improve the urban environment for native species that live in the area (e.g. Southern Brown Bandicoot), providing them with additional habitat.

The existing urban environment only caters for humans, although its location (next to Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne) is regionally significant for native wildlife.

Illustrative plan - existing conditions

Analysis of the current built environment, from the perspective of Bandicoots. Housing and fencing create hard barriers, restricting the movement of small terrestrial species from accessing habitat areas. Nature strips and roads leave terrestrial species exposed to predators, as there is no vegetation for them to hide.
