Monash Art, Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition 2025

Hi, my name is Wei Xuan and I'm from Malaysia. I am still discovering my artistic style but I value truth in art and design, and I believe in challenging perspective (others and myself) with good design.

The Looming Cathedral

By 2100, air pollution has worsened to the point where maskless faces are rarer than stars. The Looming Cathedral is a speculative bus stop that transforms spider webs—already used in biomonitoring—into active air filters. Spiders loom breathable zones, creating a space where humans can inhale without masks. Influenced by Baldur’s Gate 3 and its religious overtones, the cathedral-like form explores the tension between symbolic faith and functional safety. The project challenges instinctive fear and asks: what makes a space feel safe? The Looming Cathedral invites reflection on protection, presence, and our evolving relationship with the creatures that share it.
