Beyond raw performance, MAVERIC is being built as a Trusted Research Environment, a secure computing platform where sensitive data can be analyzed by authorized researchers under strict governance. The concept of a TRE (also known as a Secure Data Environment or Safe Haven) is increasingly important in data-intensive fields, especially when working with personal health information, genomic data, national security data, or other confidential datasets. In a TRE, data never leaves the secure environment. Instead of researchers downloading data to their computers, they “go to the data” within a controlled setting. All processing is done inside, and only approved results (with no sensitive details) are allowed out. This model enables valuable research on sensitive data while upholding privacy and legal obligations.
