The Endometriosis Management Plan (EMP) is a new, evidence‑based approach that helps people with suspected or diagnosed endometriosis work in partnership with their GP or nurse to get earlier answers and more personalised care.

Why this approach matters

For too long, many people with endometriosis have struggled to be heard, believed, or supported.

A national effort to improve endometriosis care

The Endometriosis Management Plan (EMP) was developed through a collaboration between Monash University, where SPHERE NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence is based, and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Researchers from SPHERE Centre of Research Excellence co-designed the EMP with patients, clinicians and other stakeholders, and the plan was tested to ensure it was:

  • Patient-centred
  • Practical for use in everyday healthcare
  • Based on the best available evidence

Primary health clinicians (GPs and nurses) can access EMP training through online RACGP resources for support.
