Government Open Data and DATA Scheme
Open Commonwealth government data can be access at data.gov.au. Many of the states and territories have similar open data platforms:
- Victorian government open data
- Data NSW
- Data SA
- Tasmania open data
- Queensland government open data
- NTG open data
- Data WA
In addition to the open data available, the Commonwealth government has enacted the Data Availability and Transparency Act (2022) to establish the DATA Scheme which is another pathway to request access to Commonwealth government data. Monash is an accredited user under the DATA Scheme and so Monash researchers can request this data, including data that requires secure sharing arrangements and cannot be shared through existing arrangements.
The Act does not mandate the sharing of data and some data is exempt (e.g. security related data) but as part of the DATA Scheme a new requesting system (Dataplace) and an Australian Government Data Catalogue have been created.
For more information on the DATA Scheme and Monash's accreditation, please go to the DATA Scheme at Monash page.
