Tell us about yourself.
I work as a Policy Advisor for the Victorian Government and I am also this year’s Miss Universe Australia. I am a migrant and I moved to Australia when I was 10. My international experiences have made me quite emotionally intelligent. Being exposed to different people from various backgrounds from a very young age makes you appreciate what they bring to the table.
Why did you decide to study Arts at Monash University?
Having grown up in different countries, I was inherently curious about how the world works, and I chose Monash because it has an international outlook. When I studied Arts (Global Studies) at Monash, I loved that I was able to major in international studies while also being able to choose politics as my second major.
Highlights of your Arts degree?
An absolute highlight for me was when I went on exchange to Canada for a semester. It was the first time I travelled abroad by myself. It was a steep learning curve, but I enjoyed every second.
What does your current role as a Policy Advisor involve?
My role evolves around research, drafting ministerial briefs and the coordination of documents and information – and all of that has an international flavour to it. My international experience really fuelled my interest in having an international career, and Monash helped cement that and gave me the practical skills to turn that dream into a reality.
What inspired you to apply for Miss Universe Australia?
I applied to Miss Universe Australia completely on a whim during some downtime at work. Since winning the title, I have used the experience to further conversations around diversity and inclusion.
What is a piece of advice you live by?
I live by two pieces of advice. The first is to say yes to things, particularly if they make me uncomfortable. I think it is a great opportunity to grow. The second piece of advice comes from my mum who says that if you are going to do something, do it very well.
